May Team 2009, coming to a closeTime is flying, our training period is ending soon, in these four months, we learned many things and we got lots of experiences. But there are some pictures and faces, they will stay in my mind forever. Short Term Volunteer Program and English Summer Campwritten by Dong, May Team 2009
In August we had two tasks, one was the English Summer Camp for the kids, another was the Short Term Volunteer Program for the adult. Before the program started, all the stuffs in YID have done many promotion works for them. We hoped that we could give all the people who come to YID a good experience and a good memory.
We took two weeks to run the English Summer Camp, we did our best to make the child learn English by playing. Every morning we had a short meeting before the lesson, everyday there was one people from our team who would be the leader for the whole day and two others would assist her. We designed our teaching plan as fun as possible, so that the children did not feel boring. They learned many English songs and games, drew and danced in the class, saw English and Chinese films, went to park and farm to do the investigation, cooked together and attended the party in YID. The children got certificate from school and a CD on which we put all their photos and videos during the Camp.
After the English Summer Camp we started the Short Term Volunteer Program, there were 14 people, they came from different area of China and one from South Korea. We gave the course in YID for four days, they got to know about HPP, YID, our projects and they prepared teaching materials for the children in project area, then they should go to project area for eight days, they were divided into two groups, one group went to Child Aid project in Fuliangpeng, another went to Blue Track project in Shalatuo. The volunteers were happy in the project area although the living condition in the rural area is difficult. After they finished all the program in YID they got certificate and everyone expressed if they have time they will come again.
Now we will leave YID to our project area to get five months practice. We will go to Child Aid, POF and TB project, in this month we should prepare for it, get as many as possible information that we can use in the project, and make a plan what we will do in the coming five months.
We look forward to have another good experience in next five months. |
